B.Sc Nursing

The BSc Nursing programme is designed to enable students to get a wider understanding of nursing based on scientific principles and clinical experience.

The aims of the GNM course are:

  • To provide broad base education for preparation of nursing personnel at basic and advanced levels, who can function in wide variety of health care setting and make their distinctive contribution in all branches of nursing for promotion of health, prevention of disease, care during illness and maintenance of positive health.
  • To prepare a corps of well qualified nurses for leadership position to assume responsibilities in nursing and to do pioneer wok of creative nature for the development of human & scientific health care system.
  • To help nurses develop an ability to co-operate and co-ordinate with members of the health team in the prevention of disease, promotion of the health and rehabilitation of the sick.
  • To help nurses in their personal and professional development, so that they are able to make maximum contribution to the society as useful and productive individuals, citizen as well as efficient nurses.
  • To prepare nurses to keep pace with the latest professional and technological developments and use these for providing nursing care services.
  • To ensure evidence based practice of safe and quality nursing care.

4. Age & Sex The candidate must be between the age of 17 to 35 years as on 31st December 2022. Course available for female candidates only.
5. Nationality Must be a permanent resident of West Bengal uninterruptedly for at least last ten years.
6. Education
  • a) Must pass ‘10+2’ examination from any recognized Board with at least 40% marks in aggregate.
  • Must pass ‘10+2’ examination from any recognized Board/Council.
  • Candidate must pass the subjects Physics, Chemistry, Biology, English with individual pass marks (in both theory and practical separately, wherever applicable)

    1. Minimum aggregate considering above subjects taken together.
    2. General and EWS- 45%
    3. SC/ST/OBC-A/OBC-B/PwD- 40%

7. Medical Fitness All candidates must be medically fit for the course and produce a Medical Fitness Certificate at the time of admission.
8. Selection Procedure West Bengal joint entrance board website www.wbjeeb.in should be followed.
9. Vacations & Holidays As per norms laid down by West Bengal University of Health Sciences.
10. Examination A candidate shall be eligible for examination as per the rules laid down by the West Bengal University of Health Sciences & Indian Nursing Council.
11. Registration The students who are declared successful in the final year examination are eligible for registration with the W.B.N.C. as registered nurse and registered midwife.
12. Commencement of Course 1st 1St August, 2022 (Tentative)
